If You Do It Right, Prepare to Get Bashed!

So folks…Coach Randle has heard it all now…and quite frankly, I crack up every time I hear it….

“He is not a good technical coach!”

“He is too tactical and systematic for 9 year olds!”

“His possession style of play creates robots or dumb players!”

“It will just be a matter of time before everyone catches up with his team due to his style of play!”

Blah….Blah…Blah…

All I can say is that you don’t know what you don’t know…this is a classic case of that…

Now mind you, I hear this crap from parents and coaches with C licenses, B licenses, and even A licenses…These are some of the top minds in US Soccer and they are all clueless…

Let me explain something to you very quickly…I was an airline captain here in the United States…I flew passengers all up and down the East Coast…I had an Airline Transport Pilots license which is the highest commercial flight certificate you can obtain…

To make this long story short, some of my colleagues, whom also had that top certificate and flew passengers around the country were the biggest idiots I have ever met…they had no business being the protector of human lives in transport…in my eyes, many lacked the competency to hold such a qualification…but here’s the twist, they had memorized the information and procedures…they had passed the tests required by the FAA…therefore, they were deemed Airline Transport Pilots…

That is the same here with Soccer in the United States…Because you can memorize a training session and pass a remedial test, it doesn’t qualify you to be a coach…it just gives you the certificate…that’s what we have here in the United States…a bunch of certificate holders and very few coaches…

So why does the bashing of Coach Randle continue?  Quite frankly, because people don’t understand what I am doing and are threatened by the results…

Human nature is to fight change…if we don’t understand it, we automatically discount it…if we see it is successful, then we automatically attribute that to luck…

So I guess I must be the luckiest coach in the world…you know I pray to the luck God daily…damn he is good to me…

But really, lets’ not digress from this serious issue we have with American Soccer Culture…

If you were a business man and had a chance to have Billionaire Warren Buffet mentor you, would you do it?  Would you take the information he gives you as gold, and immediately apply that to your business?

Of course you would…Logic says that you would take the advice of Warren Buffet over the advice of some local small business owner that makes a decent living…

Yet and still, in American Youth Soccer, we continue to take the advice of the local businessman and discredit the advice of Warren Buffet…It is simply baffling…

Guys like me, we live and die by “Soccer” Warren Buffets from countries like Brazil and Spain…I continue to sharpen the tools in my belt year after year by learning the cutting edge information in their youth academies…

The developmental platform I have created for my kids is tweaked, but modeled after those academies…

Yet and still, Americans who just don’t know, continue to question, discount and flat out discredit everything I am doing…and again, all I can say is that it is simply baffling…

So let me go ahead and address each of the comments I have heard time and time again from ignorant Americans on Youth Soccer Development…

“He is not a good technical coach!”

If by technical you mean step-overs, scissors, cryuffs and other fancy footwork, then yes, I am not a good technical coach…I teach my kids the fundamentals they need to play this game at the top level… show them how to position their bodies to see the field…I show them how to receive the ball with the furthest foot so they can maintain vision of the field…I show them how to always touch the ball into advantageous space to set up your next play…I teach them how to make decisions…To play my style of soccer, you have to be of the highest technical ability…watch my U9 girls and then you tell me if I’m not a good technical coach…Americans are ignorant on this…because I refuse to spend time on dumb cone drills during training they want to discount my qualification…technique is taught playing in my system…

“He is too tactical and systematic for 9 year olds!”

What a joke!  And I’m quite tired of hearing this from C, B, and A qualified coaches…Get a clue…soccer is game of creativity and intelligence…that can only be created in a system…a system that is forever changing and not at equilibrium…kids learn by playing…tactical, technical and psychological is all developed in the system…you don’t separate the three into their own segments…kids need to train as close as they can to competition, period!  You don’t have to believe me, just watch my teams over the next few years…but take notice…by then it will be too late for your kids and players…

“His possession style of play creates robots or dumb players!”

This past weekend I saw three of my U9 Girls combine for the most amazing goals I have ever seen at this age…a double combination between the three of them which freed one player up in behind the defense to slot the ball home…It was simply brilliant…you can’t learn that crap dribbling around cones…dumb players can’t combine with their teammates and move into space…The problem here is that most Americans don’t know what dumb is when it comes to youth soccer…the funny thing is that it looks them right in their face every morning when they are in their bathroom…

“It will just be a matter of time before everyone catches up with his team due to his style of play!”

The bottom line is that the gap will only get bigger…mark my word…at U11 when we move to the larger field and the gap in athleticism starts to shrink, they will see just how far behind their ignorance got them…remember, ignorance is bliss…there is only one way to train youth soccer players…that is some form of possession based soccer…

So I am finished with this rant…As you can see, I’m very passionate about what I do…Feel free to comment…agree or disagree, please keep it respectful at all times…we will talk soon…
