The Ultimate Compliment!

I had my U9 girls team scrimmage my U8 boys team this past weekend in Moreno Valley…

The cool thing about Moreno Valley is that they have a special needs soccer program called “Bill’s Special Kids Sports For Special Needs Kids” they run every Saturday with the help of University of Riverside’s Girls Soccer Program…

After the game the director of the program approached me and called me out by name…these were his words…”I would have paid to watch your girls play…they were amazing…the intelligence they display on the field was incredible”…

Now, this was a guy who has been around the game for over 30 years…he has coached, put a daughter through college playing soccer and is now the director of this soccer program…

That compliment is what makes this all worth it for me…I will never be able to please everyone with the things I am doing, but the one’s that get it and appreciate it, those are the people that keep me pushing and striving to learn more and give back to these kids…

You see the director knew immediately that what I was doing was the proper way to train young kids…it’s funny too, he referenced the fact that, although this is the proper way, there are others that will do it wrong and beat me at these ages…he went on to say that no matter what, keep doing what I am doing cause this stuff doesn’t fully pay off until later down the road…

They say patience is a virtue and I would have to agree…educating kids on this beautiful game is a long and arduous process…when done right, it is very slow but lasts a lifetime and builds the proper foundation…

I remember in bible school when I was a kid there was a song we used to sing…it went like this…

“Don’t build your house on the sandy land…don’t build it to near the shore…well it might look kind of nice, but you will have to build it twice, or you will have to build your house once more…you better build your house upon a rock…make a good foundation on a solid spot…for the storms may come and go but the piece of God you will know…”

Now I’m not trying to get religious on you here…what I am saying is that you can take shortcuts and get quick results…but those results won’t be lasting…if you take your time and do it right, the results will last you a lifetime…

Thanks again and we will talk soon,

Coach Randle
